Frozen Lasagne
In a world of reality tv shows, influencers and cameras everywhere (with eyes wanting to watch always)- the pressure of wanting to have the picture perfect home, the instagram-worthy supper complete with directions in the comments- is very real. The fear of being judged because our meal wasn’t “nutritious enough for the kids”, or maybe its the fear of someone thinking Martha Mays kitchen sink was shiner than theirs. It’s real.
For some of us, it might be hard to believe that people live this way, that they care that much what other people think. But not all of us come from the same place. Not all of were raised in homes that taught us that we are enough, just the way we are and that true happiness comes not from getting what you want, but wanting what you have. There are those who struggled to be accepted by their own parents, teaching them to strive for that affection. Deep down, we all crave it. Maybe not from our parents anymore, but maybe its a spouse. A friend. We want to be loved and valued.
You want a giant exhale moment? Hear this: Our value isn’t found in our kitchens. It’s not found on our social feed or our instagram grid. It’s not determined by how clean our house is, what kind of career we have, or how big our social circle is. Our value is actually found at the feet of Jesus, where we discover who we’ve always been: deeply loved, fully known and sought after, and intentionally created for His glory. Grasp this truth and (deep breath)…you won’t really care that Sally brought over a cobbler in a Le Creuset that costs more than your weekly salary and sat it down on a counter next to a sink full of dirty dishes because the night before, you chose to sit down and talk to your kids after dinner and a busy work day and got caught up working a puzzle together so oops, the dishes sat overnight but it’s ok, because there’s always tomorrow. The whole Mary, Martha thing, you know.
All of this to say: Stay focused on what really matters. Life is short, make it sweet. Eat the cobbler and compliment the beautiful ridiculously expensive Le Creuset. And be happy with your dirty Pyrex still in the sink.
I’m going to enjoy this quiet night with my husband. We’re having frozen lasagna, and not because I made it ahead of time and saved it for a later time, but because I grabbed it from the freezer section of Food Lion. Minimal dishes to wash and extra time for a movie. WIN!

Love you, mean it.
