Made for More: Embracing Your God-Given Purpose

The following is from the Made 4 More Conference 2025.

—————————————————————————

Ladies, I stand before you today as living proof that God can take the broken pieces of our past and weave them into something beautiful. I didn’t always believe that. In fact, for years, I ran from my calling. Not because I didn’t believe in God - but because I didn’t believe in myself.

My past was rough, full of hurts that left me feeling unworthy, incapable, and unqualified for anything good. I wore shame like a heavy chain, convinced that my story was too messy, my mistakes too big, and my wounds too deep for God to use me.

Maybe some of you feel that way - like you’ve been disqualified by life, by choices, by circumstances beyond your control.

But here’s the truth: God does not call the qualified - He qualifies the called.

No matter what you’ve walked through, no matter how far you’ve run, and no matter how small you feel - you were created for a divine purpose, and every detail of your journey, good and bad, is part of God’s greater plan.

To show you just how powerful this truth is, I want us to look at a man who knew what it meant to run, to wrestle with his calling, and to feel completely unworthy - Moses.

Exodus 3 – Moses’ Call at the Burning Bush

Moses: A Man Made for More

Moses’ story begins in a time when the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt under Pharaoh’s harsh rule. Pharaoh, afraid of the growing number of Israelites, ordered that every baby boy be killed. But Moses' mother refused to give up on him - she placed him in a basket and set him afloat on the Nile River, trusting God with his life.

By God's providence, Pharaoh’s own daughter found the baby, had compassion on him, and raised him as her own. So Moses, though born a Hebrew, grew up in the palace of Egypt, receiving education, privilege, and status. But deep inside, he knew he wasn’t truly an Egyptian - he was one of God’s people.

One day, as a grown man, Moses saw an Egyptian beating an Israelite slave. In anger, he killed the Egyptian, thinking he was helping his people. But instead of being seen as a hero, Moses was rejected and forced to flee into the wilderness. He left behind his life in Egypt and became a shepherd in the land of Midian, where he spent 40 years in obscurity, far from the life he once knew.

Just when Moses likely thought his story was over, God showed up - in the form of a burning bush. And that’s where we pick up in Exodus 3, where God calls Moses into something far greater than he ever imagined.

Moses’ story in Exodus 3 is one of the greatest examples in Scripture of someone who was made for more but struggled to believe it. Here we find him in the wilderness, tending sheep - far away from the palace he was raised in, far away from the purpose he was created for.

Moses, once a prince of Egypt, had run for his life after a terrible mistake. He was a fugitive, a failure in his own eyes. And just when he thought he was forgotten, God met him in a burning bush and called him to more.

I see myself in Moses. Maybe you do too.

Like Moses, I ran from my calling, convinced that my past had disqualified me. But the same God who called Moses from the flames called me out of my wilderness. And today, I believe He’s calling you too.

From this powerful encounter, I want to give you four truths about stepping into the "more" you were made for.

Truth 1: God’s Call is Greater Than Your Past

Exodus 3:11  – “And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

When God called Moses, his first response wasn’t faith - it was fear.
He said, “Who am I?”

I’ve asked that same question. After everything I’d been through, after all the mistakes I’d made, I thought surely God had chosen the wrong person.

Maybe you’ve been asking the same thing. Who am I to lead? Who am I to make a difference? Who am I to step into God’s purpose?

But here’s what I learned: Your past does not disqualify you. It prepares you.

  • Moses’ past in Egypt made him the perfect person to lead his people out.

  • My past - every trial, every wound - became the very thing that shaped me for ministry.

  • Your past - every moment of brokenness - has been woven into a testimony that can set others free.

Lysa TerKeurst once said:
"God is good at being God. When we assume the burden of trying to figure everything out, we act as if we don’t need Him. But we do need Him - desperately."

Truth 2: God’s Power is Greater Than Your Insecurities

Moses had a long list of reasons why he couldn’t answer God’s call.

  • “I am not eloquent.”

  • “They won’t believe me.”

  • “I am slow of speech.”

I get it. I have felt that same fear of inadequacy. I’ve thought, “God, I can’t do this. I don’t have the right words. I don’t have the strength.”

And do you know what God says? The same thing He told Moses in Ex. 3:12: "And He said, Certainly I will be with thee."

Sisters, when God calls you, He goes with you. You are not stepping into purpose alone. The power of the Almighty walks with you into every assignment.

Truth 3: God’s Promise is Greater Than Your Fears

Exodus 3:14  – “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM…”

Moses was still afraid. He asked, “Who should I say sent me?”
And God answered with the most powerful declaration: “I AM THAT I AM.”

Sisters, when you don’t feel like enough, remember: He is.

  • When you feel weak - He is your strength.

  • When you feel lost - He is your guide.

  • When you feel afraid - He is your courage.

God is not calling you to step into your purpose alone. He is the I AM who goes before you, who strengthens you, who empowers you.

Corrie ten Boom says it beautifully-
"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."

Truth 4: Trust God’s Timing – His Plan is Perfect

Ecclesiastes 3:11
"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end."

There is nothing harder than waiting - especially when we feel called to something greater.

Moses had to wait in the wilderness for 40 years before stepping into his calling. He probably thought he had missed his chance, but God had not forgotten him. The burning bush didn’t come too late; it came at the perfect time in God’s plan.

Maybe you feel like you’ve been waiting - waiting for breakthrough, waiting for direction, waiting for something to change. But just because you don’t see movement does not mean God isn’t working.

God’s delay is not His denial - it is His divine preparation.

Lisa Bevere said:
"God will take you through seasons where you feel unseen to see if you will be faithful when only He is watching."

Waiting seasons aren’t wasted seasons - they are shaping you, refining you, and preparing you for the MORE God has for you.

God’s delays are not denials. Trust His timing - it is always perfect.

Practical Steps to Step Into Your "More"

  1. Let Go of Your Past – Forgive yourself. God already has.

Isaiah 43:18-19
"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

God is saying: Forget the past! Stop holding onto what He has already forgiven. He is doing something NEW in you!

2.     Say Yes, Even When You Feel Unqualified – God equips the called.

2 Corinthians 12:9
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

God doesn’t need your strength - He needs your surrender. His grace is MORE than enough!

3.     Walk in Faith, Not Fear – God is with you. Joshua 1:9
"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Fear has no place where God is leading you! He has already gone before you and will be with you every step of the way.

Moses could have stayed in the wilderness. He could have let his fear keep him from his purpose. But he chose to trust God - and an entire nation was set free.

What if your purpose is tied to someone else’s freedom?
What if your obedience is the key to someone else’s breakthrough?

What if your calling is the answer to someone else’s prayer?

What if stepping into your purpose sets a chain reaction of faith for generations to come?

Ladies, you were not meant for a life of settling. You were made for more.

Stepping into Your More

.

  • Maybe you’ve been struggling with feeling unworthy, like your past has disqualified you.

  • Maybe you’ve been hesitating, afraid to step into what God is asking you to do.

  • Maybe you’ve been feeling stuck, wondering if there’s more to life than this.

There is.

You were made for more than brokenness. More than fear. More than settling.
You were made for freedom, purpose, and divine calling.

And today, God is inviting you to step into your more… stop running and start stepping.

THIS could be your burning bush moment - your encounter with the living God. Don’t let fear hold you back. Just say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”

"Father, we thank You that You have called us to more. Thank You that our past does not define us, our insecurities do not limit us, and our fears do not control us. You are the great 'I AM,' the One who calls, equips, and goes with us. Father, Help us to step into Your purpose with boldness, knowing that You are with us. Today, we surrender. We lay down our fears, our doubts, and our excuses, and we say YES to You. We trust that You have a plan, and we step into the MORE that You created us for.Seal this word in our hearts, and let us leave this place changed - empowered, equipped, and ready to walk in Your purpose.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen."
